Vice President of Operations

The Senior Dining Association (SDA) is the only dedicated association providing resources, education, and networking opportunities for dining and hospitality for the senior living industry.

As Vice President of Operations, you must be creative and enjoy working within an environment that is fast-moving and results driven. The ideal candidate has an advanced degree with at least 5+ years of senior management experience; a track record of effectively leading and scaling a performance/outcome-based organization and staff; and has developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth and value.

Duties & Responsibilities

Located in Matthews, NC, the Vice President of Operations will provide the strategic and operational leadership and management expertise to help this association achieve its mission and growth potential.

  • You have experience with complex corporate structures and understand how best to lead people systems, technology, and processes in a growing environment.
  • Responsible for SDA tradeshow, events, and reserving space, contract negotiations, arranging catering, overseeing room setup, coordinating the agenda, and develop run of show and facilitation as required. Assist with meeting logistics including speaker confirmations, meeting specifications, supplies, event signage, shipments, and other items as needed.
  • Create and develop event programing to engage the membership
  • Identify member needs, present solutions, maximize use of appropriate internal capabilities to serve the membership and add new members
  • Develop special interest groups and committees to engage the membership
  • Recommend operational plans, programs and committees to the CEO that can deliver their strategic goals
  • Allocate resources, set budgets, guide program activities, and establish targets
  • Direct and monitor finances to achieve association objectives
  • Lead financial planning and decision-making to ensure funding is available and assets are used efficiently
  • Work with team to develop annual operating budget and forecast financials
  • Recommend and ensure compliance to policies and ensure financial control processes are in place
  • Lead and direct the efforts of other staff responsible for Marketing, Content, and website development.
  • Lead and manage all HR efforts
  • Develop Strategic Alliances with other industry organizations
  • This person will work closely with the CEO to manage strategic initiatives, programs, and services
  • He/she will lead strategy, financial management and operations to drive member growth and build the association
  • Leading and developing staff including outside 1099 consultants
  • Evaluate operational processes and procedures, and develop strategies and implementation plans to improve and standardize all aspects of operations
  • Provide leadership for the overall operating performance of the business
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with various CRM and project management software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Teams and Zoom
  • Strong detail and quality orientation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; excellent telephone etiquette
  • Strong planning & organizing skills, impeccable follow-up and exceptional attention to detail
  • Must have ability to plan and prioritize workload to meet day to day needs
  • Must demonstrate a sense of urgency and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong working knowledge of the rules of effective English usage, including subject/verb agreement, tenses, and basic grammar
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion about confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Strong organization, analytical and follow up skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and capable of working with little direct supervision


This job has minimal travel requirements.


  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in a fast-paced environment
  • High degree of accuracy and proficiency in data entry
